Planting Planning for Mairehau Neighbourhood Garden

Kia ora Mairehau (and neighbours),

Do you enjoy mahi māra (gardening?) would you like to get involved more in gardening? Would you like to share your skills with your community?
All abilities welcome!

Join our Planting Planning hui for the Mairehau Neighbourhood Garden.

WEDNESDAY 31ST AUGUST
6:00PM-7:30PM
WORKSHOP IN THE MCFADDENS CENTRE – 64 MCFADDENS ROAD

During this hui, we will be looking at the planting plans for The Mairehau Neighbourhood Garden. Ngaio Cowell from The Green Lab will lead the kōrero. However, we welcome your suggestions, input, and encourage you to share your knowledge and skills with the group.

Think about what you want to grow in the Mairehau Neighbourhood Garden!

  • Do you have any seeds/seedlings/plants you can bring to the project?
  • Is there a day weekly/fortnightly that you could help take care of the site?
  • Will you be one of the garden’s kaitiaki?

We’ll be looking at things like soil composition, composting plans and sources, what the companion plants should be, and planting with maramataka and the seasons. We’ll also look at the timeline for establishing the garden, considering ongoing mahi māra.

If we can wrangle it, we’ll even get some seeds sown in small containers for workshop attendees to take care of until they’re ready to go in the ground/polytunnel.

Light refreshments provided.
