The Green Lab is a flagship for our organisation. This moveable, multi-use building can be requested to activate a site or community. We can provide an activation programme.

The Green Lab was initially developed to enhance our capacity to activate the sites on which we work and provide a connection point for communities.

The Green Lab can act as a gathering space or a meeting room; a site office or a classroom; a construction workshop, or a venue for skill-development sessions. By facilitating a variety of activities, The Green Lab enables a deepening of our commitment to community building, engagement and capacity development. In addition, the space reflects our design values: we strive to be innovative and resourceful.

The original concept for a moveable workspace to support our community work was conceived by Jonathan Hall of Variant, who was The Green Lab’s Design and Construction Lead at the time. Architectural Designer Pippin Wright-Stow of F3 Design and current Green Lab Design and Construction Lead Jordan Hampson (also of Bespoke Outdoors) have also been crucial to its design and realisation.

The Green Lab has been made possible with the generous support of Christchurch City Council and the Rata Foundation. Further support has been received from:

F3 Designs was awarded Best Commercial Interior, Architectural Design Awards for Westland/Canterbury 2020 for The Green Lab

If you have a space or community that could use activation through The Green Lab, get in touch.
